Autodesk Construction Cloud is a connected suite of design, preconstruction, and construction tools that links BIM models, documents, and field workflows on one platform.
What is Autodesk Construction Cloud?
Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is Autodesk’s unified construction platform. It connects design, preconstruction, and field execution through a set of products that share one common data environment: Autodesk Docs for document management, Autodesk Build for project and field management, Autodesk Takeoff for quantity takeoff, and BIM Collaborate for design coordination and clash detection.
The suite was assembled partly through acquisition. PlanGrid (field sheets and punch lists) and BuildingConnected (bid management) were acquired in 2018, Assemble (model conditioning) the same year, and Pype (submittals automation) in 2020. Their capabilities now live inside ACC products, most visibly in Autodesk Build, which absorbed PlanGrid’s field workflows. Knowing this history helps decode the product naming, because older references to BIM 360 and PlanGrid describe functionality that today ships under ACC names.
The reason to pick ACC over anything else is the model. If your projects are authored in Revit and coordinated in Navisworks, ACC is the only major construction platform where the BIM data is native rather than imported.

Individual products can be bought alone (Docs is the cheapest entry point) or in bundles that pair document management with coordination, precon, or field tools. Quotes come through Autodesk sales or its reseller channel, and existing Autodesk design customers usually negotiate ACC as part of a broader agreement.
Two practical notes. First, the per-product model means costs stack: a team wanting Docs, Build, Takeoff, and BIM Collaborate Pro is buying four subscriptions, and the total climbs quickly with headcount. Second, BIM Collaborate Pro is priced per user and every Revit co-author needs a seat, which makes design-side costs predictable but not small. A free trial exists, and pricing changes often enough that you should confirm current structure with Autodesk directly.
Where it is genuinely strong
Model-centric work is the home turf. Clash detection that used to require a Navisworks specialist exporting reports now runs continuously in the browser, with issues assigned to the responsible firm. For design-build teams and trade contractors doing serious coordination (mechanical, electrical, structural steel), this workflow is the strongest available.
Document control is the second pillar. Autodesk Docs is a genuine common data environment with the permissioning and audit trail that large commercial and infrastructure projects require, and because it underpins every ACC product, there is one version of the truth from design through closeout.
And the Revit tie is decisive where it applies. Design data does not get exported, flattened, and re-uploaded; it stays live.
Real limitations
Financials are the soft spot. Autodesk Build’s cost module covers budgets and change management competently, but it is not the system of record most GCs run their business on. Procore’s financial suite and ERP connectors are deeper, and many ACC customers pair the platform with Sage, Viewpoint, or even Procore for cost.
Packaging is genuinely confusing. Docs, Build, BIM Collaborate, BIM Collaborate Pro, Takeoff, and legacy BIM 360 modules overlap in ways that take a sales call to untangle, and admins managing a multi-product deployment face real setup overhead.
Most importantly, the value is conditional on BIM. A contractor whose projects arrive as PDF drawings, with no Revit anywhere in the chain, is paying for a model pipeline they will never use.
ACC vs the alternatives
ACC vs Procore: the central rivalry in commercial construction software. Procore wins on breadth of project management, financial depth, ecosystem (a large third-party app marketplace), and ease of rollout to field teams. ACC wins on everything involving the model: coordination, design collaboration, and continuity from Revit. Plenty of large GCs run both, with design and coordination in ACC and project financials in Procore; the two integrate for exactly this reason. If you had to pick one: BIM-driven self-perform and design-build firms lean ACC, management-focused GCs lean Procore.
ACC vs Bluebeam: not really substitutes. Bluebeam Revu is the industry’s PDF markup and measurement standard, priced per seat and vastly cheaper. It is a document tool, not a platform; there is no schedule, no cost, no field management. Many ACC and Procore shops keep Revu for estimating markups. If your need is drawing markup and quantity takeoff on 2D sheets, Bluebeam alone may be enough. If you need a system of record, it is not the same conversation.
ACC vs PlanGrid (legacy): PlanGrid no longer exists as a standalone product to buy; Autodesk folded it into Autodesk Build. Who should use it, and who should skip it

Skip it if you are a residential builder (Buildertrend or JobTread fit better), a small commercial sub with 2D workflows (Bluebeam plus a lightweight PM tool costs far less), or a GC whose priority is financial control rather than model coordination (start with Procore).
The bottom line
Autodesk Construction Cloud is the strongest platform in construction for model-driven work, and if Revit is at the center of your projects, nothing else keeps design and field this connected. The tradeoffs are real: layered per-product licensing, confusing packaging, and financials that trail Procore. Decide based on how central BIM is to your delivery, and get a current quote from Autodesk, because the structure is negotiable and the list is not public.
